Risks of landslides occur in Central Province due to heavy showers. PDF Print E-mail

Risks of landslides have occurred in several places in the Central Province as a result of the prevailing bad weather. Our correspondents say already minor landslides have already occurred in Harangala at Kothmale, Pussellawa and several places near the Gampola – Kurunduwatta road. The Divisional Secretariats advise the people who are residing in the areas of Udapalatha in Gampola, Pasbage in Nawalapitiya and Ganga Ihala Koralaya to be on alert as landslides can occur. The water levels of the Mahaweli River and the Kothmale tank is also rising due to the heavy showers experienced in the area.

Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has expressed belief that her scheduled Sri Lankan visit would help to further strengthen the bilateral ties between the countries. Expressing her views to the Indian journalists she also said that her Sri Lankan visit which is due to begin today would be important to both countries. The Indian Foreign Secretary also hopes to visit in North and East provinces. She is scheduled to participate in several progress review meetings of the development projects implemented in Sri Lanka under the Indian aid.

General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Minister Maithreepala Sirisena says the constitutional amendment bill will be presented to the parliament on the 8th of next month. The government expects to obtain the parliament’s approval as soon as possible after holding the debate regarding the bill for two days. The Minister expresses belief that the bill will be passed with a two thirds majority. The Secretary to the cabinet will present the constitutional amendment bill to the Supreme Court today to obtain its approval as well.

A delegation headed by the Chairman of  the  Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Services Bureau  Kingsly Ranawaka  leaves for Saudi Arabia today to  enlighten  Saudi Authorities  regarding the incident of causing  severe torture to a Sri Lankan  housemaid.

Court issues another open warrant to detain Danuna Thilakarathne. PDF Print E-mail

The Colombo High Court Judge Sunil Rajapaksa has ordered to convene the court on the 16th of next month to decide the date of examining the case against Sarath Fonseka and three others including his son in law for alleged involvement in fraud when procuring arms for the Army. After deciding that the first offender Danuna Thilakarathne is not appearing before the court, the Colombo High Court judge decided to continue the case without him. Furthermore, the judge also issued an open warrant to the controller of immigration and emigration to arrest him, if he arrives in the country.

The cabinet has approved today  the relevant proposal regarding  constitutional amendment. The cabinet has also decided to  present   the proposal to the Supreme Court to  for  clarification.  Minister Keheliya Rambukwella  revealed this facts upon an inquiry  made by the national radio.
