President Mahinda Rajapakse presided over the ceremony to vest in the ownership of the students the Rathnapura Hotel school of the Sri Lanka tourist hotel management institute. The school was built at a cost of 100 million rupees. The hotel school has facilities to provide practical training to 240 students on hotel management. |

Risks of landslides have occurred in several places in the Central Province as a minor landslides have already occurred in Harangala at Kothmale, Pussellawa and several places near the Gampola – Kurunduwatta road. The Divisional Secretariats advise the people who are residing in the areas of Udapalatha in Gampola, Pasbage in Nawalapitiya and Ganga Ihala Koralaya to be on alert as landslides coul occur in these areas. The water levels of the Mahaweli River and the Kothmale tank are also rising due to the heavy showers experienced in the area. |

The Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao arrived in Sri Lanka last night for a three-day official visit. The main objective of her visit is to inspect development activities in the north and east. She is also scheduled to hold talks with leaders of political parties. Mrs. Rao has told Indian media that her visit would consolidate bilateral relations between Indian and Sri Lanka. |

Thailand is to take strong action against transgressing groups supporting tiger terrorist. Foreign media reported that various groups are attempting to enter Thailand following strict immigration rules imposed by Canada recently. The Thai government informs that strong legal action will be taken against tiger terrorist groups if they attempt to enter that country. |

President Mahinda Rajapakse will declare open the Ratnapura Provincial Hotel School of the Sri Lanka Tourist and Hotel Management Institute this morning. The school has been constructed on funds allocated by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. This school will train personnel for local and foreign employment in the hotel industry. |

Former Minister Lakshman Jayakody passed away this evening at the Colombo National Hospital after suffering from brief illness. He was the Deputy Minister Defence in the Sirimavo Bandaranaike government during 1970 to 1977 and was also the Minister of Buddha Sasana and Cultural Affairs of the People’s Alliance Government during 1994 to 2000. Mr. Jayakody was one of the senior members of the SLFP and has also served as a vice president of the Party. Furthermore, he was appointed as a presidential Adviser in year 2000. |
