He added that agricultural officials should pay attention to encourage farmer community to adhere to organic farming. The President was speaking at the opening ceremony of the agricultural exhibition at Agricultural Technology Park, Bata-atha this morning.

The People’s Government of Yunnan Province of China has organised the “Sri Lanka - Yunnan exchanges and cooperation promotion” for the first time in Sri Lanka. The inaugural ceremony of the event took place under the aegis of Prime Minister D.M. Jayarathne today. Addressing the gathering the Prime Minister said that this programme will help immensely to improve business relations between Sri Lanka Yunnan Province. He also said that newly developing countries such as Sri Lanka are compel to utilise new and advance technology to improve the productivity of their ventures. He appreciated the measures taken by the government of China to encourage and increase the export trade volume to China from Sri Lanka.

President’s counsel Gomin Dayasiri said that the extension of  the period of the post President through the proposed constitutional amendments could by no means be defined as an anti-democratic act, as this would be done according to the will of the people.

Resettlement of all IDPs will be completed before the end of this year. PDF Print E-mail

The coordinating office for IDP said that total number of Internally Displaced Persons in the Menik Farm relief village has dropped to 28,659 as of today, due to the Government’s speedy resettlement programme. Economic Development minister Mr. Basil Rajapaksa during his recent visit to India had said that the resettlement of all IDPs will be completed before the end of this year.

The government is providing dry rations for a period of six months to families resettled until they find livelihood assistance in addition to initial payment of 25,000 rupees paid at the time of resettlement. Two more batches of 700 and 200 IDPs in Menik Farm will be resettled in Kilinochchi, Pachchilaipalli on the 14th and 18th of this month respectively. In addition, 3650 IDPs who were with host families will be resettled in their places of origin by the 18th of this month.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has decided to  establish close relations with embassies of relevant countries to obtain information on migrant Sri Lankan workers.  The objective is to look into the problems of expatriate Sri Lankans and to provide immediate solutions.
