The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has extended its fullest support to the proposed constitutional amendment. President Mahinda Rajapaksa briefed the proposals to the party’s Central Committee yesterday.

Army media spokesman Major General Ubaya Medawala says another two thousand square kilometer area in the north and east is to be cleared of landmines.  Demining has so far taken place in an area of  1,800 square kilometers.

Director General of Rehabilitation Brigadier Sudantha Ranasinghe says 508 rehabilitated former Tiger carders will be handed over to their parents at the Pompemadu rehabilitation camp on the 4th of this month.  This is the fourth occasion the Tiger carders being released. Minister Dew Gunasekera will be the chief guest at the occasion to present certifications for 180  former Tiger members who successfully completed vocational training programme.

Ministry of Agriculture says issue of fertiliser for the cultivation in the Maha season has begun. The fertilizer stocks needed to the farmers are reaching the regional warehouses island wide at present. Secretary to the Ministry K.A. Karunathilaka says the government provides a 50 kilo bag of fertilizer at a subsidised price of 350 to the farmers. It is about 3,880 rupees at the open market. He further says that there will be no shortage of fertilizer during Maha season.
