Director General of Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalla says Former Army Chief and chief of Defence Staff retired General Sarath Fonseka has been arrested by the Military Police. Mr Hulugalla said he has been arrested in connection with condemnation acts and other military offences committed by him. The Director General of MCNS further added that conspiring to topple the government whilst he was in service and holding discussions with political parties to do so have been brought against him. Furthermore, evidences have also been received on Former Army Chief’s alleged involvement causing rifts in the army during his tenure. Therefore, he has been detained for questioning and will face a Court Martial. Further investigations in this regard are now being carried out.
