Arrangements are in place to cultivate paddy in 54 thousand acres in the Northern Province in the upcoming Maha season. All facilities including seed paddy and fertilizer are to be provided in this regard. In addition to this various crops will be cultivated in four thousand acres of land. The government has taken extensive measures to cultivate paddy in the Northern Province after three decades. Discussions on this matter are currently being held at the Kilinochchi district secretariat office under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa. Ministers, Patali Champika Ranawaka, P. Dayarathna and Douglas Devananda are also taking party in this discussion. |

The present Ministers who were previously in the group of UNP MPs led by Karu Jayasuriya that extended their support to the government have strongly rejected statement made by Mr. Jayasuriya saying that they had reached the relevant decision considering the privileges and benefits offered by the President. The Ministers say they are amazed about MP Karu Jayasuriya making such a statement since he was in the stance that they should support the government earlier. |

Department of Land Settlement says the process of settling lands in the village level has reached its final stage. Commissioner General of the Department Vijitha Nanda Kumar says settling lands in 550 villages is to be completed within the next four years. A programme has also been implemented to handover ownership certificates for settled private lands. It is being carried out in divisional secretariat level. Speaking to SLBC the Commissioner General also disclosed that recommendations have also been made to the Land Register General Department to issue 120 thousand ownership certificates after clearing lands in 18 divisional secretariats this year. |
