Victoria became the first Australian State to legalize “Assisted Dying”, popularly known as "Euthanasia". Lawmakers voted to allow terminally ill patients the right request a lethal drug to end their lives. The legislation which takes effect from June 2019, was passed in Victoria after 100 hours of fiery debate. Expressing his views the Premier of the State of Victoria, Daniel Andrews said that people should have the right to be in control of the last part of their life's journey. He added that "for too long, too many have been denied the compassion, the control and the power that should be theirs in those final moments of their lives.

He was further quoted saying: "I am proud that TODAY we have put COMPASSION right at the center of our parliamentary and political process. That is POLITICS AT ITS BEST"
