The South Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2018 to be held on the 5th and 6th of this month at the Sugathadasa Stadium

South Asian Junior Athletics Championship 2018 will be held on the 5th and 6th of this month at the Sugathadasa stadium. Over 250 performers representing 7 countries will participate. A formidable team of 54 athletes from India is expected. The foreign teams will arrive in the Island tomorrow. This is the 1st international sports event that is being held at the Sugathadasa Stadium after the new track was laid.

One day matches of the Super Four Provincial Cricket Tournament, begin on Wednesday.

Dinesh Chandimal will captain the Colombo Team, while Upul Tharanga will lead the Galle Team. Angelo Mathews will be the Captain of the Kandy Team, and Kusal Janith Perera will provide leaderships for the Dambulla Team.

The match between Colombo and Dambulla will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Wednesday.

Pasindu Malshan of St. Joseph's College Colombo 10, placed new record in the under-16 triple jump event. S. Safraz representing Hartley College of Point Pedro placed a new record in the under-20 hammer throw. His competency was 39.7 meters. F.P.D. Perera from the Sri Lanka Air Force placed a new record in the under- 23 men's hammer throw, with a competency of 42.81 meters.

Kavindi Sanjana Edirisinghe of President's Girls College in Nawala placed a new record in the under-16 four-into-100-meters women's event, with a competency of 57.48 seconds. Aruna Dharshana of Akuramboda Weera-keppetipola Vidyalaya placed a new record in the under-20 four-into-100-meters men's event, with a competency of 46.59 seconds. Isuru Kaushalya Abeywardane representing the Ananda Shastralaya National School in Matugama completed the under-16 four-into-100-meters event within 49.14 seconds, placing a new record. Shyamali Kumarasinghe from the Walala A. Rathnakaye Vidyalaya placed a new record in the under-20 women's four- into-100-meters.

Dilantha Malagamuwa will take part in the first class motor race event in Italy.


Sri Lanka's Motor racing Ace Dilantha Malagamuwa will take part in the Lambogini Super Crossio first class international motor racing competition to be held in Monza Track in Italy on Saturday and Sunday. This is the 1st international event where Malagamuwa participates in. He secured the 3rd place in the same event last year.

More than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations and territories will compete for 275 gold medals at the Commonwealth Games, which begin today. There will be the same number of men's and women's medal events for the first time at a major multi-sport event.

Gold Coast 2018 also includes the largest ever programme of disability sport at a Commonwealth Games. More than 2.4 billion people - nearly a third of the world - will be represented over 12 days in Australia.

Major League Baseball games most probably in London in June 2019.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are "very close" to agreeing on a deal to play two Major League Baseball regular season games in London in June 2019. The venue would be London Stadium, which is home to Premier League football club: 'West Ham United'. Details are still to be agreed, but if the fixtures take place, they would be the first Major League Baseball Games hosted in Europe.
