Najam Sethi elected chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board

Newly-elected chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board Najam Sethi says one of the challenges for him is to bring back international cricket to Pakistan. 69 year old Mr Sethi, will replace Shaharyar Khan, who quit because of health and personal reasons after completing his tenure.

Mr Sethi was unopposed and was unanimously elected by a new nine-member PCB board of governors. Pakistan’s deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had appointed Sethi as member of the board of governors last month.

It is mandatory, according to the PCB’s constitution, that the chairman should be elected from the members of the board of governors. Zimbabwe has been the only team to visit Pakistan since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka cricket team’s bus in Lahore in 2009.

Manchester United outclassed as Real Madrid retained the Uefa Super Cup.

Manchester United were outclassed as Spanish and European champions Real Madrid retained the Uefa Super Cup with victory in a sweltering Skopje. Madrid dominated from the start and led when Casemiro - who earlier hit the bar - slid in a half volley. They doubled their lead when Isco calmly slotted in from eight yards after a neat one-two with Gareth Bale, who started ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. New 75 million Euro striker Romelu Lukaku tapped in before Marcus Rashford scuffed wide.

Lahiru Thirimanne recalled to the squad for the second Test against India

Batsman Lahiru Thirimanne has been recalled to the squad for the second Test against India, 13 months after he last played for Sri Lanka. Left-arm wristspinner Lakshan Sandakan has also been added. While Thirimanne is effectively a replacement for the injured Asela Gunaratne, Sandakan's inclusion is a sign Sri Lanka are considering a stronger spin-bowling attack for the SSC Test that begins tomorrow.  The match will also see the return of captain Dinesh Chandimal, who had missed the first game due to pneumonia.

Tillakaratne appointed Sri Lanka's temporary batting coach.

Hashan Tillakaratne has joined the Sri Lanka team as temporary batting coach, and will be with the side until at least the end of the Test series against India. Tillakaratne has been a coach in the SLC system since December last year, largely working with the sides that feed into the national team. He had also previously served as a national selector, between January 2013 and April 2015.

Sri Lanka had gone through a lean period recently as a part of transition period which is in progress. Sri Lanka need a further 218 runs on the final day to win the one off test match against Zimbabwe..

Sri Lanka need a further 218 runs on the final day to win the one off test match against Zimbabwe. here at R Premadasa stadium. Today is the final day of the test match. Sri Lanka were 170 for 3 at the end of the 4th day's play before Zimbabwe were bowled out for 377 in their second innings earlier on the day.

At the crease is a sparkling Kusal Mendis, who has hit 60 off 85 balls so far, and has refused to let the spinners settle to him, on what has now become a slightly treacherous pitch. Alongside him stands Angelo Mathews, one of Sri Lanka's best-ever fourth-innings batsmen.

With an inexperienced Niroshan Dickwella, and an injured Asela Gunaratne to come, this, you suspect, is the partnership that will have to bloom if Sri Lanka are to score the further 218 required for victory. They have so far managed 170 for 3. The game stands tantalizingly poised.
