Sri Lanka recorded an easy 7 wicket victory over India in the first one day international in Dharamsala today. Sent in to bat first, India managed only 112 all out in 38.2 overs. After losing their first 7 wickets for 29 runs, Mahendra Singh Dhoni made 65 runs to give some respectability to the Indian total. Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets for 13 runs. Sri Lanka reached their target easily, taking 20.4 overs and losing only 3 wickets on the way. Upul Tharanga made 49.

Strict regulations to be enforced against the use of banned substances in sports

Minister Mahinda Amaraweera joining in the discussion in parliament today stated that the task being fulfilled by the Minister of Health in eradicating the drug menace in the country is praiseworthy.
Minister Dayasiri Jayasekera expressing his views stated that the programme to salvage the citizens of this country from alcohol needs to be expedited. He also stated that strict regulations need to be enforced against the use of banned substances for performance enhancement in sports. He observed that such substances are widely used among rugger players.

India slashes Sri Lanka by securing a win of an innings and 239 runs.

Sri Lanka suffered their heaviest defeat in Test history as they lost by an innings and 239 runs to India in the second Test in Nagpur. In the 1st innings Sri Lanka were restricted to 205 runs, while India scored 610 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. In the 2nd innings Sri Lanka were able to score 166 runs only.
Indian Captain Virat Kohli scored a double century for his home side and three other batsmen scored tons during India's innings. R Ashwin, who took 4 for 63, became the fastest to hit 300 Test wickets, reaching the milestone in 54 Tests.

Tonia Couch retires

Three-time Olympian Tonia Couch has announced her retirement from diving, after a 12-year senior career. Couch, is one of Britain's most decorated female divers having won silver at Glasgow's Commonwealth Games in 2014 and three European medals. She last competed at the World Championships in July. She will now take up a coaching role in her home city of Plymouth.

Sri Lanka tour of India ends in a draw due to bad weather

The first test match between Sri Lanka and India that was played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata resulted in a draw, due to bad weather. In the 1st innings India were all out for 172 runs, while Sri Lanka had scored 294 runs.  In the 2nd innings, India scored 352 runs. In reply Sri Lanka were 75 runs, for the loss of 7 wickets.
