The Leader of the House says, they did not attend today's parliamentary session because the Speaker is acting against Standing Orders.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Parliament Complex this evening, Leader of the House: Minister Dinesh Gunawardhana said, they did not attend today's parliamentary session because the Speaker is acting against Standing Orders. He says, Parliament has not been convened according to Standing Orders and the order paper. He also says, they cannot accept the Parliament as a "Sirikotha Mansion". Joining in the media briefing, Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said, the Speaker has destroyed parliamentary traditions, and said he is not prepared to be part of what he describes as a "hidden agenda of the Speaker".

At another media briefing held at the Prime Minister's Office, Minister Susil Premajayantha said, the United People's Freedom Alliance maintains that a general election needs to be held to solve the crisis that he says has occurred due to the behaviour of the Speaker.
