Fisher community has commended the government's decision to reduce the price of kerosene oil

State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi says, the price of kerosene oil will be reduced by 31 rupees, with effect from tomorrow. Accordingly, from the current price of 101 rupees per litre, will be brought down to 70 rupees. This step has been taken upon the request of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, to provide relief for fisher-folk and low income families. The relevant proposal will be presented to the cabinet tomorrow for approval. At a meeting held in Tangalle yesterday the state minister said, that price of was increased due to fuel price hike at the World market and misuse of kerosene oil by bus and lorry owners.

The fishing community has commended the government's decision to reduce the prices. Chairman of the national fisheries solidarity Mr.Loyel Peiris said that, the government has taken a timely decision. He recalled how the previous government unleashed violence against the fishing community who had organized a protest demanding kerosene oil subsidy.

Chairman of the All Island Fisheries Trade Union Aruna Roshan said, some bankrupted politicians attempted to gain political mileage by provoking the fishermen.
