54 million rupees set aside to provide relief for those affected. Relief activities to continue uninterrupted

The Disaster Management Centre states 125,954 persons across 19 districts have been displaced due to the prevailing inclement weather. 13 deaths have been reported. Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre: Predeep Kodippili, speaking at a media briefing held today said, 13,832 families have been sheltered in 251 temporary locations. Assistant Director: Savithri Jayakody said, 54 million rupees has been set aside by the government to provide relief for those affected.

Relief activities will continue uninterrupted.

Senior Seismologist to the National Building Research Institute: Dr. Gamini Jayatissa said, 211 locations that face the risk of earthslips have been identified, while measures have been taken to monitor 159 of these locations.

Meanwhile, Director General of the Met Department: Sarath Premalal says, heavy rains will continue until Saturday. Heavy falls are expected along the south west part of the island, tomorrow as well.

Director of the Irrigation Department: Mala Alawathugoda said, since a considerable rain fall was not experienced within the past six hours, a rise in the water level of rivers, was not reported.
