The Prime Minister says, the government has taken measures to develop Viharayas not only in the towns, but also in rural areas

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says, it is one of the government's prime tasks to protect Viharayas and their Bikkhus. The government has taken measures to develop Viharayas not only in the towns, but also in rural areas. The Premier made these comments participating at an event held at Temple Trees yesterday to provide financial aid to develop Buddhist religious sites. 50,000 rupees each, was granted to develop 140 Viharayas.

Speaking at the event, Mayoress of Colombo: Rosy Senanayake said, financial aid will be provided to develop Aramayas for Buddhist nuns, from next year.

Also speaking at the event, Venerable Thiniyawala Palitha Thero said, 'religion' is the only 'way' to create a multi-ethnic people-friendly society.

Parliamentarian Mujubar Rahuman and a number of municipal council members were present at this event.
