A National Action Plan is in the making, focused upon the total eradication of bribery and corruption from the country. Director General of the Bribery Commission, President's Counsel, Sarath Jayamanna says, the entire commission will undergo total restructuring. Speaking at a workshop held in Colombo today, he stated that the present legal process pertaining to bribery and corruption investigations, will be strengthened by incorporating amendments to existing legislation. A three-member court will be established to here such cases and hearings will take place every day. 200 new officials will be recruited for bribery and corruption investigations.

Just last year 2,768 complaints pertaining to bribery and corruption have been received. Legal action will be initiated against those responsible, irrespective of their social status.
