Special Envoy of the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention Prince Mired Al-Hussein said that he is satisfied with the progress of demining programme in Sri Lanka.

Special Envoy of the Anti-personnel Mine Ban Convention Prince Mired Al-Hussein said that he is satisfied with Sri Lanka's measures taken to eliminate land mines from the island. At a discussion held in Colombo yesterday he expressed his satisfaction on the progress of demining program implemented in the North. The Prince added that he witnessed the demining activities carried out by the UN volunteer groups in Muhamalei area in the North. The teams are carrying out the activities with much efforts facing immense hardships. Government and politicians also extend their fullest support for this programme.

People and other volunteer organisations should also support to make this programme a success. The special envoy also stressed the need to carryout relief programmes to classify the landmine victims and the family members of the persons who have been killed by landmines.
