Monthly dry rations given to the drought hit farming families will be extended up to April this year.

The government has decided to continue the relief provided to the farmers who have been affected by the prevailing drought. About 300,000 farming families have been affected by the drought. A cabinet has given approval to a proposal to further extend the relief activities. Accordingly, a committee comprising with the officials from several Ministries including the Ministry of Agriculture has been appointed to make recommendations. The committee has decided to continue the monthly dry rations given to the affected families up to April this year.
