The President says, corrupt individuals cannot share the same stage with the SLFP on a chaste political journey.

President Maithripala Sirisena says, corrupt individuals cannot share the same stage with the SLFP in a chaste political journey. He further stated that the defected party that has been formed outside the SLFP with the ulterior motive of protecting and liberating thieves can never embark on an unblemished political journey. He added that he invited all 96 UPFA MPs to gather around him, not being blind to the fact that some of the MPs cannot align themselves with his principals. He emphasised that his invitation was for those who have not been thieves, to those who are not thieving and to those who don’t have allegations of theft against them. He expressed these views participating at a public rally held at Rikillagaskada yesterday.

The President pointed out that although it is 23 years since the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption was established by Act No. 19 of 1994, fraud and corruption is still rampant in the country. Calling dark memories to mind he noted that under the previous administration the law was enforced from Temple Trees. He emphasised the need for all progressive forces of the country to join hands irrespective of differences to defeat corruption.
