The election commission requests voters to mark a cross only for the party of their individual choice.

The Election Commission says the ballot papers at the upcoming election for local government institutions do not mention the names of candidates or details of the electoral divisions. Only the names and symbols of the contesting parties and independent groups are printed on the ballot papers. The commission requests voters to mark a cross to the right of the party and symbol of their individual choice.

Meanwhile, chairman of the commission Mahinda Deshapriya expects that the election could take place on February 10th without any problem. He told journalists this afternoon that trade unions should refrain from disrupting the people's voting rights. Mr. Deshapriya noted that trade union action could be a right of workers, but that resorting to such action during election time would have a negative impact.
