Minister Vajira Abeyawardena says all necessary arrangements have been made to celebrate the 70th Independence day celebrations in grand scale.

Minister Vajira Abeyawardena says all necessary arrangements have been made to celebrate the 70th Independence day celebrations in grand scale. The National function will be held at Galle face green under the theme of "One Nation". President Maithripala Sirisena will participate as the chief guest. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe and other dignitaries will be present at this occasion. Prince Edward will participate at the is function representing the British Government and Royal Family. Around 3500 local and foreign guests will participate are expected to be present at this occasion.

Minister Abeyawardena made these remarks at a media conference held in Colombo today. Arrangements and facilities have been provided to the members of the public to participate in this function. A special all night pirith chanting ceremony will be held at Independence Square on the 2nd February.

A special religious observance of all four religions will be conducted on the 4th February in the morning. Special logo will be designed for the independence- day. A stamp and first day cover will also be released to mark this day.
The minister also said a musical show will be organized at the Colombo Municipal grounds in sideline to the independence day celebrations. A floral tribute will be laid at the monument of Late Prime Minister D S Senanayake. Minister Vajira Abeyawradena also requested all offices and houses to host the national flag from 1st to 7th of February.
Meanwhile, rehearsals of the independence day parade will be conducted from tomorrow to 3rd February.
