The Neville Fernando Private Hospital in Malabe has been taken over by the government.

The government took over the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital in Malabe under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena this morning. Minister of Health, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said this will be transformed into one of the unique hospitals in the country.

He thanked the Chairman of the hospital Dr. Neville Fernando for making a noble contribution to the nation. The hospital is fully open for the public from the 1st of August. The minister added that rights of the employees of the hospital will be protected to the utmost. No employee will loose their jobs. The minister added that the government is committed to safeguard free education and free health in the country.

Addressing the gathering Minister Lakshman Kiriella said the government's policy is to strengthen the freedom of education while protecting the free education system.
