The President requests the popular support for a comprehensive programme against bribery, corruption, frauds malpractices and waste

 

President Maithripala Sirisena requests the popular support for a comprehensive programme against bribery, corruption, frauds malpractices and waste. President's coordinating secretary Rajitha Kodithuwakku addressing a news conference held in Colombo this morning said that there is a need of a broad and social dialogue on combating these evils and take the country forward prosperous era. He added that there is need of empowering the administrative and legal system. The Presidential secretariat has launched a national programme to achieve this goal and the President's intention is to build a clean country.
Coordinating secretary Anira Amaratunga said that the presidential secretariat invites views and proposals and active participation of the Maha Sangha and other clergies, scholars, professionals who loves the country on this subject.

150th birth anniversary of late Sir D.B. Jayatilleke commemorated.

The Public Trustees Department together with the relatives of Sir D.B Jayathilaka has organized several programs to mark the 150th anniversary of the late Sir D.B. Jayatilleke. The late Sir D.B Jayatilleke who has rendered a yeomon service for independence struggle of Ceylon entered the legislative council in 1924 and later to the state council. He was the Sri Lankan high commissioner in India at the time of his demise. A floral tribute was held at the Presidential secretariat premises this morning to mark the 150th anniversary of late Sir D.B. Jayatilleke. Speaker Karu Jayasooriya was the chief guest. A statue of the late Sir D.B Jayathilaka will be unveiled by the Speaker tomorrow. An all-night pirith chanting ceremony will be conducted on Thursday. An alms giving for the Maha sangha will take place on Friday.

600 model villages will be set up during this year

 

Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority Lak Vijaya Sagara Palansooriya says that the housing ministry will set up 600 model village throughout the country during this year. Participating in the Subarathi programme of the SLBC this morning, he said that lands for this scheme have been identified and the past experience gained in implementing similar programme in the past will be used to make this programme a success.  The chairman also said that under the guidance of the minister Sajith Premadasa, these houses will be allocated for the people who really need shelter,  The programme will cover the north and east and the plantation sector as well.  Housing scheme will also be inaugurated for government servants
