The government has price controlled the Stents that are being used during heart operations. Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathna who took part as the Chief Guest of foundation stone laying ceremony in three storied relic placing mansion of Vidya Ravindra Pirivena in Gampaha made this revelation there. According to the new prices, a Stent now sold at 75,000 rupees per unit is decreased to 24,000 rupees. A Stent that release medicines to the heart after an operation, was earlier sold at 350,000 rupees have been decreased up to 150,000 rupees.

Heart patients who wanted to have Stents for their surgeries face severe difficulties because of their high costs in the market. Taking these facts into consideration, the Health Minister advised the Chairman of the State Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority to reduce the prices of Stents. Under the new price scheme, the Pharmaceutical Regulatory Authority is keeping an open eye whether the price control is in proper operation
