The first multi-purpose sea fish breeding center opened in Batticaloa.

 

The first multi-purpose sea fish breeding center was opened in Batticaloa recently. This center constructed at a cost of 150 million rupees. This facility has been provided to Sri Lanka by the World Food Agricultural programme with the assistance of European Union. The activities of the breeding center are conducted by the national Aquatic and Development Authority.
It is expected to breed special fish varieties which have a higher demand and commercial value in the international market. 100 persons have been selected in the Batticaloa district for this purpose. 250,000 rupees financial assistance will be given to them to carry out this programme. 4000 persons will be provided job opportunities through this programme. The objective is to earn one billion rupees for the export these fish varieties annually.
