Illegal street hawkers in Colombo city will be removed from the 15th of next month.

 

It has been decided to remove the illegal street hawkers, advertisements and cart traders from the 15th of next month. This decision has been taken at a meeting held at the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government recently. The meeting was held under the patronage of the Secretary of the Ministry Kamal Pathmasiri. The Police has pointed out that there are reports on some traders who obtained permits for their stalls to sell newspapers and lottery tickets are engaged in some other rackets. The Police also said complaints are received regarding several Mobile vans parked at the pavement some times get obstructed to the parking of vehicles.

At present, the Colombo Municipal Council has identified the alternative places for the traders and will be given them in the near future. The Secretary has advised the Colombo Municipal Council to provide necessary facilities and the security for such traders.
