Minister Kabir Hashim says that a major restructuring is in process to make Sri Lankan Airlines a profit making venture. The national carrier incurred heavy losses due to mismanagement of previous regime, the minister added. He was speaking at press briefing held today at the Ministry of Public Enterprises Development.

Mr.Kabir Hashim said that the government intends to carry the restructuring process in way that not put burdens on general public. Hence, the government is considering many options to reduce the loss and increase the profit. Flights in the loss making long haul routes including Frankfurt, Paris and Rome will be cancelled. Flights used in those routes will be leased to other leading airlines. Discussions are underway with Pakistan International Airlines to lease-out one airbus immediately and other three after that. Code-sharing agreements with other air lines are also being discussed.
