The Health ministry says new 2,500 oral cancer patients have been identified annually.

The Ministry of Health says according to a new cancer data research 2,500 cancer patients are being identified annually.  Accordingly six new oral cancer patients per day are being recognized.  It has been revealed that 1,888 male and 534 female cancer patients are among the those detected .

The President stresses that nobody will be allowed to engage in irregularities under the cover of good governance.

President Maithripala Sirisena reiterates that he will not allow politicians and government officials to engage in nefarious activities under the cover of good governance. He points out that people's expectations on a government of good governance will be dashed, if everyone fails to act according to conscience. The President delivering a speech at a special seminar at the BMICH in Colombo last evening said that all must commit themselves for the country and the people to emerge victorious by overcoming all challenges against good governance and reconciliation and unbiased and independent institutional framework will be established to look into the grievances and influences on state officials.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe said that the national government formed with the unity of the two main political parties will function for five years. A steering committee has been appointed to draft a constitution. The work has been assigned to 6 sub committees. He said that the previous government had taken loans amounting to 1,300 billion rupees without parliamentary approval.

The key note address titled "Sri Lanka's development challenges" was delivered by governor of the Central Bank Dr. Indrajith Koomaraswamy. He added that the government's aim is to increase foreign investments by five fold in the next five years. Attorney General Jayantha Jayasuriya has also delivered a lecture on the role of the government officials in overcoming development challenges within the existing legal framework.

Finance minister mediates to resolve the problems of those affected due to projects involved in laying of new pipe lines.

Finance minister Ravi Karunanayake says the people affected by the project of laying oil pipe lines from Colombo Port to Orugoidawatte  should be relocated from their places, only after construction of permanent houses for them.   A discussion held yesterday in this regard has focused attention over the problems arisen due to this project.

 130 families have been affected due to the laying of oil pipe lines.   It has been revealed 44 houses were fully damaged.  The minister pointed out that after providing houses for them, the project should be commenced.

President to leave for London.

President Maithripala Sirisena and the delegation will leave for London tomorrow to take part in the “Anti-Corruption Summit -2016” to be held in London on Thursday. The Summit commenced under the patronage of the British Prime Minister David Cameron is scheduled to be addressed by the President Sirisena.
