Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe will meet the Indian President and several other ministers in New Delhi Tomorrow.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe arrived in New Delhi today. The Sri Lankan delegation was warmly welcomed by High Commissioner Y.K. Sinha and Sri Lankan High Commissioner in India Chithrangani Wagiswara at the Indra Gandhi international airport. Prime Minister Wickremasinghe will hold talks with top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

SLFP anniversary celebrations gave a proper response to JO - Western Province CM


Chief Minister of Western Province Isura Devapriya says the Sri Lanka Freedom Party was able to hold the largest ever part convention in the history of Sri Lankan politics yesterday. Taking part in the Subharathi discussion programme of the SLBC this morning the Chief Minister also said the party members gave a proper response to the statements made by the group who call themselves as the Joint Opposition.


2017 will be the year of liberating the country from poverty - President

President Maithripala Sirisena states that the year 2017 will be declared as the year of liberating the country from poverty. The relevant memorandum will be presented to the cabinet soon. The President was speaking at the progress review meeting of the Mahaweli development and environment ministry.

The meeting was held at the President's office this afternoon. The President further said that a comprehensive programme will be put in place to eradicate poverty from the country with the support of different organizations belonging to public and private sectors as well as NGOs. The President pointed out that the number of people who are living in poverty is larger than the actual figures that are given by the Samurdhi and Divi Neguma movements.

He said that measures will be taken to enhance welfare of the employees belonging to the minor staff of the public and private sector. Country's development has been attached to political personalities yet. But it is necessary to understand priorities of the national development. The President said that some injustice was caused to people living in certain areas due to the bad administrative policies. The mission of the government is to develop all 25 administrative districts without any discrimination.

The unison government was committed to protect democracy freedom and fundamental rights of the people. The priority has now been accorded to attract more local and foreign investments with the view of bringing prosperous to the nation. The President emphasized that the officials should be responsible to spend money on projects properly without returning the funds back to the treasury. 

Turkey suffers first death in cross-border campaign


The military says that Turkey has suffered its first loss of life in an intensifying campaign in northern Syria.A soldier was killed when Kurdish fighters fired on tanks. Kurdish media say three tanks were destroyed.Turkish armour crossed the border earlier this week in an operation aimed at so-called Islamic State but also at Kurdish forces in the area.


The Prime Minister says the present government was created to bring down the cost living burden of the workers.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says measures will be taken to further develop the investments, production and trade sectors in the country to provide benefits to the people.

The foreign aid received by the country is being successfully utilized in development activities.

The Ministry of Finance says the foreign aid received by the country is being successfully utilized for the development work of the country.  Foreign aid worth 312 million US dollars were used for the development activities during the first four months of this year.
