ADB grants more aid to strengthen SL's economy

The Asian Development Bank says it is ready to provide more grants to strengthen Sri Lanka's economy.  The allocations will be made for state and private sector joint projects. More structural changes should be taken place in order to strengthen the national economy.

 The ADB points out laws and regulations should be further relaxed to attract investors.  The Asian Development Bank has given away 250 million dollars to Sri Lanka during the last ten months.

The Prime Minister says that Sri Lanka's police service will be made in best in Asia.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe says that Sri Lanka's police service will be made in best in Asia while equipping it with cutting edge technology. He added that the duty of the police officers of the country is to ensure ethnic harmony and safeguard national identity. The premier was speaking at a parade held at the police college in Kalutara today.


Over 1000 trained police officers will pass out today.

1012 trained police officers will pass out today. There are sub inspectors, women sub inspectors, men and women police constables among the new batch. The passing out parade will be held today at the Kalutara police training college grounds under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.

41 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees are to return from India.

41 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in Tamil Nadu, India are arriving Sri Lanka under the UNHCR facilitated voluntary repatriation program on Thursday November 17.


The president stresses the need of common agenda for the nation.

President Maithripala Sirisena says the country needs one common agenda to triumph national interests. He added that the common goals should not be led down by the petty interests of the individuals. The president made these comments at a function held at the BMICH today. The event was organized to celebrate art and culture that consolidate ethnic times.


SLFP is satisfied with budget proposals - Dilan Perera

SLFP spokesperson and Minister Dilan Perera hailed the budget as progressive and said that recommendations put forward by the party have been incorporated as well. 
It was a bit more progressive than last year. Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake held several discussions with the SLFP to take recommendations from the party.


The Indo-Sri Lanka leaders met yesterday.

A special meeting was arranged yesterday between Indo-Lanka leaders. President Maithripala Sirisena who is on a two day visit to India met Indian president Pranab Mukarji at his official residence. The two leaders discussed many issues at this occasion. 


The nation bids farewell to the late music maestro Pandit W.D.Amaradewa today.

Final rites of the late Dr.Pandit Amaradewa  will be held today at the Independence Square in Colombo under full state honours. Massive crowds are now gathering to pay their last respects to the late Veteran Maestro. He is   considered as the brand name of indigenous Sri Lankan music by many critics.  All arrangements have been finalized to conduct the cremation  in most respectful manner.


Thailand's crown prince to be confirmed king on 1 December

Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn is to be confirmed as the new king of Thailand on 1 December. Once confirmed, he is expected to endorse a new, military-drafted constitution and to start appointing his own team of senior royal officials.
