Minister Wimal Weerawansa says that more than 2000 million rupees have been spent this year to resolve the housing problem of peoples living in remote areas.
The minister addressing the progress evaluation meeting of district managers of the national housing development authority in Battaramulla recently further said that many families who were unable even to obtain a bank loan to build a house, were benefited. The National Housing Development Authority has been involved in projects to build 25,000 houses during this year. Previously, less than 10,000 houses were constructed in an year. The newly reconstructed serpentine housing scheme in Borella will be vested in the ownership of the general public today. This is the first occasion of conducting any reconstruction in the apartment complex constructed in the year 1966. 25 million rupees have been spent on the project. There are nearly 1,500 tenants at the serpentine housing scheme. |
