Acting Minister of Economic Development Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena says an extensive investigation will be conducted into the assassination of a tourist in Tangalle. He stressed that the suspects will be brought to the book irrespective of any differences.
The government has no intention to protect culprits. Police has already apprehended the suspects and eight police teams have already been dispatched to inquire the incident. The Acting Minister further said that the government rejects the incident as the country is marking a significant growth in tourism sector. The government is bounded to safeguard freedom of the people who are either residents of the country or foreign tourists. Mr. Abeywardena noted that no adverse impact has caused on the country’s tourism sector as a result of this incident. He was speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo today. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Ambassador in Russia Udayanga Weerathunga stated that the Russian Embassy considers the incident as an isolated case. However, the Russian government is happy about taking immediate action by the Sri Lankan government into the incident. The Sri Lankan government has taken maximum measures to provide facilities to the Russian woman who sustained injuries at the incident. |
