President Mahinda Rajapakse assures to convert Sri Lanka into the most advanced country in South Asia. The country’s per capita income has increased to 2,200 US dollars. At the time when the current government came into power the figure was around 1,000 US dollars.
The president made these comments at a meeting at president’s house in Anuradhapura today with businessmen. He assured to create a new Sri Lanka by protecting the local farmer and granting a good price for their products. He pointed out that interest rates which were between 28 to 30 percent when he gained power have now dropped to 12 percent. The president assured the commitment of the government to protect the country’s farmer, labour and business communities. The farmers of Minneriya handed over a document to the president requesting an International Farmers’ Day. The felicitations of the farming community of Rajarata were extended to the president at today’s meeting. |
