Two giant Japanese companies are ready to invest in Sri Lanka.

 President Maithripala Sirisena met the Chairman and CEO of the Japan External Trade Organization Hiroyuki Ishige in line with the G-7 heads of statess summit yesterday.

They held a cordial discussion on ways to promote trade and investments between the two countries.  The Chairman of JETRO expressing his views regarding the Japanese products  said that the concept of ‘Japana Hapana‘ has created a such a positive impression for Japanese products and investments in Sri Lanka. Mr. Ishige further said that he is very keen to promote more investments in all series of areas especially in oil and gas industry, coconut industry including other plantation industries. Mr. Ishige positive responded to a request made by President Sirisena to obtain support for Oluwil and Galle Harbour expansion projects. They have also agreed to provide 20 boats to use in natural disasters and emergency situations in marine activities.

Sri Lanka tourism marks 50 years. Earlier referred to as the Ceylon Tourist Board, was the official government body responsible for all tourism related activities and development within the country.  


President to leave for London.

President Maithripala Sirisena and the delegation will leave for London tomorrow to take part in the “Anti-Corruption Summit -2016” to be held in London on Thursday. The Summit commenced under the patronage of the British Prime Minister David Cameron is scheduled to be addressed by the President Sirisena.

Panama Papers affair widens as database goes online.

The Panama Papers affair has widened, with a huge database of documents relating to more than 200,000 offshore accounts posted online. The database became accessible from 18:00 GMT

The Panama Papers have shown how some wealthy people use offshore firms to evade tax and avoid sanctions. The papers belonged to Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca and were leaked by a source simply known as "John Doe". The company denies any wrongdoing.

Names of number of Sri Lankans and companies are also among the data base of Panama papers.

The Feasibility reports for the new Kelani bridge and the Colombo elevated road have been completed.

Ministry of Highways says that the feasibility and environmental reports of the new bridge of Kelani River and the proposed elevated road from the bridge upto the Colombo Harbour have been completed, at present.
