A programme is being implemented to make the Lady Ridgeway children’s hospital in Colombo as the best children’s hospital in Asia.
This is the largest hospital in Asia that provides treatment to children. The Hospital Director Specialist Dr. Ratnasiri Hewage said that there are 1,000 beds, 70 specialist doctors and a large number of nursing and other staff in the hospital. Four million of Sri Lanka population consist children of under 12 years age. The hospital has professional staff and resources to treat any kind of child diseases. Daily around 2,000 children get treatment from the OPD unit of the hospital. The hospital also has an expeditious dengue treatment plan. At present six small scales ICU units have also been established in addition to the main Intensive Care Unit. Majority of the children affected by dengue are being directed to this hospital. The specialist Dr. informed that these days the hospital gets a large number of children suffering from cough, fever and influenza. He also said that there is a virus fever spreading in the country. |
