Majority of members of the European parliament have acknowledged the fact that the assistance of Europe is needed for the prosperity and development of Sri Lanka. President of the Sri Lanka Friendly Forum of the European parliament Jeffrey Van Orden has conducted a round-table conference with parliamentarians and political parties in countries belonging to the European Union on the 25th of this month. 

He was reported to have stated that Sri Lanka needs the constructive support of Europe to build a more prosperous and secured future for Sri Lanka overcoming its problems. A majority of EU parliamentarians were also reported to have engaged in visits to Sri Lanka and listen to the views of different parties. They have also conducted extensive talks on the report of the Commission on Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation. Many parliamentarians of the EU were of the view that international attention is needed on the LLRC they have also pointed out that the committee’s recommendations are very encouraging.

 

Mr. Jeffrey Van Orden says the relevant parties must be encouraged to implement the facts contained in the LLRC.
