Today is the world habitat day. The National Ceremony to mark this day will be held in Matara

The World Habitat Day is commemorated today. According to the UNs declaration world habitat day is usually commemorated on the first Monday of the first week of October.  This day is commemorated since 1986.  The main theme for this year “Housing policies at an affordable cost”  The main objective of this day is to a formulate effective measures and work plans to provide shelter for  those who do not have permanent houses.  President Maithripala Sirisena in a greeting message stated that merely constructing a house is not adequate.  The authorities should also focus on providing health living condition and ensure all other infrastructure facilities are in place.  The national programme to mark this day will be held at the Matara Sanath Jayasaooriya grounds under the patronage of ministers Sajith Premadasa and Mangala Samaraweera.
