The Immigration and Emigration department says Rohingya refugees will not be given citizenship in Sri Lanka.

Controller of the Immigration and Emigration Department W.M.M.G. Weerasekara says Rohingya refugees will not be given citizenship in Sri Lanka. Participating in a programme over the SLBC today he said people should have no fear on the stay of some Rohingya refugees in Sri Lanka at present. There are about 30 such refugees being housed in a camp in the country. The government stresses that they cannot obtain citizenship in Sri Lanka according to the immigration and emigration laws.
