The GMOA has temporary postponed the scheduled island-wide strike.

Secretary of the Government Medical Officers’ Association Dr. Haritha Aluthge says it will temporary postpone the scheduled island-wide strike considering a request made by Archbishop of Colombo, Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith. This was announced during a media gathering held in Colombo this afternoon. Addressing reporters at the Bishop’s House in Colombo, Cardinal Ranjith requested the government doctors not to stage the scheduled strike as there is a risk of a dengue epidemic spreading in the country. A decision had been made by the GMOA to engage in an indefinite strike tomorrow against the government’s failure to resolve the SAITM issue and declare a stance on the matter.
