President Mahinda Rajapakse says Sri Lanka is for Sri Lankans. The President added that it is not a Singapore model, although he is impressed by its growth. Some people want to make this into a Singapore or New York or Dubai but Sri Lanka should become a model for by itself. President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated these views in an interview with the Strait Times. President Rajapakse stressed that the model is ‘to be a hub for education, for aviation, Shipping, communications and tourism. Commenting on the contribution of expatriate Sri Lankans to the rebuilding process, the President said that many Tamils want to come back and that lot of the educated people who went abroad, have come here. The president noted that in Colombo, business is largely controlled by Tamils. He also highlighted that without peace, there is no development and without development, there is no peace.
