President Mahinda Rajapakse was engaged in a tour in Thunukkai in Vavuniya this morning to meet the newly resettled Tamil people under the Uthuru Wasanthaya Programme.

 The President was seen in a cordial conversation with around 1,500 people resettled in their original villages.  President Rajapakse pledged to resettle the remaining people without delay.  He also said that necessary infrastructure facilities for the people to live normal lives will be expanded. Presidential secretary Lalith Weeratunga, defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse, army commander Jagath Jayaasuriya and IGP Mahinda Balasuriya also took part in the tour.
