The president pointed out he came to Nepal in an early occasion when Sri Lanka was engaged in a war to liberate the country from brutal terrorism. He added that however , he is visiting Nepal today as the head of state who has liberated the motherland from terrorism.

President Rajapakse further said his next intention is to carry Sri Lanka towards massive development. The support of all expatriate Sri Lankans is required to fulfill this Objective.

He added that time has come for all Sri Lankans to utilize their knowledge , energies and abilities for the well being of the country . The president recalling the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives and incapacitated in the fight against terrorism , said in order to genuinely repay the debt to the gallant soldiers , the country must be carried forward to development.

The northern areas are witnessing rapid development due to the "Negenahira Navodaya" and "Uthuru Wasanthaya" programmes. The government has implemented a speedy programme to resettle people in the north. All have been accorded the opportunity to live in a unitary state with unity and peace.

The president will preside over a ceremony to declare open the Sri Lanka Maha Viharaya in LUmbini Nepal today.
